The Private Diaries of Alison Uttley were launched in London in May, at the London headquarters of New York University. There followed another event in Manchester, at the beautiful John Rylands University Library, Deansgate, by kind permission of John Hodgson, Curator of Manuscripts. Alison wrote in September,1932: "We rushed off to Manchester, and went to John Rylands Library, - a gem in dark Manchester. Silence, books, marvellous jewelled books, illuminations, manuscripts, and all those alcoves with chairs and tables ready for the student. A marvel of a place, a secret heart in this busy street."

Professor Judd talking with Susan Dickinson, who was Alison's editor for many years.

John Hodgson, introducing Denis Judd, who spoke about editing the diaries.

Guests at the launch, where copies of the book were on sale.
